I am a letter carrier at the post office and have a friend at the gas station on my route . He is from Pakistan , we get along very well and have become good friends. Race , religion or politics have never entered our conversations.
I am not a very religious person but I believe as long as you are honest and never hurt anyone out of malice you are truly a good person.

That's awesome that you can talk to others so openly.

From what I've seen and my own personal background, I think it's fear. Fear of those who are different from us.

We're taught from an early age to be paraniod about the world, to see danger lurking behind every bush and to think every body is out to get us.

Poppycock!

We can fight back at those who want to harm us, because are stronger than we have been taught. We can discern the difference between someone who is different from us and someone who wants to hurt us because we are better judges of character when we have been told we are.

Trust your judgement, use your head, stand strong, and put your best face forward. Bad people won't see you as a target, good people won't be afraid of you, and you'll know that you are making others feel welcome.

There will never be peace anywhere as long as there is hate and hate is taught and people act on their hate. Peace is something that must come from within. You are being a good person, I wish there were more people who would learn from your example. I see the world getting more and more destructive and hateful, anyone can get along you just have to want to do it.

And you are right, that is what makes a good person. I wish the same, that everyone could learn to get along, to appreciate the differences, but you mix politics and fanatics together, and give them some power, and this is what happens. It's all very sad, and very frightening.
