When I read an article about something that I know about, there are so many things wrong in it. Makes me wonder about all the other topics, I mean they can't be experts in everything yet they write about it all ... What's your take?

I would venture that some are more proficient than others.
There are all kind of newspapers though : from the serious ones right down to the tabloid.
Whether they admit it or not, newspapers are owned by very powerful people who usually have a say in the political arena (murdoch and company) Hence the different stances and opinions that you read.
It would be difficult to find an unbiased journalist however clever and knowledgeable s/he would be in my opinion.

And they are human beings too....with all their foibles afterall !

And there is the editor in charge no ? I'm sure (don't know!) that he vetos what he does not like.

If journalists always knew what they were talking about they would be pretty good at foreseeing the future.....look at stocks, market exchange in the business pages (no I don't read them) but at times...it is a hit or miss....a bit like meteorologists..

Quite a few times, I have seen newspapers retracting their stories with a small apology in some backpage......:-) which hardly anybody notices...

Look at the health pages....What was considered a risk yesterday by somebody (an expert) will be contradicted tomorrow by another expect in the field. Drives people bananas !!

If you compare newspapers from different political stances or even different countries : the way things and events are portrayed can be radically different.

Many newpapers have to feed their subscribers what they want to read. After all they want to keep their customers (business) and are more and more in competition with the internet where you don't pay anything to get the news.

Some readers send commentaries to fairly often correct something wrong contained in an article or just add their views.

Random thoughts........I don't subscribe to any newspaper anymore. I don't even read my local rag :-))!

Now.......if somebody could edit that.....most welcome :-)

Well i share some of your sentiments. Some journalists act like they now it all. On the other hand some may be able to write a lot about a particular topic becasue they have do extensive reserch or maybe becase they were trained in that particualer field of journalism eg medical journanlism or financial jounalism.

when THEY are experts, they can be right.

It doesn't seem like they do enough research a lot of the time, though, does it?
