I ain't knockin' bad grammar. I use punctuation marks incorrectly---a lot---a whole lot; especially, the semi-colon. I use the word cain't around my friends, I've probably said it around language arts buffs.

It's a tough challenge for young people to excel at English, when they get accused of trying to be proper. Could the use of good grammar at work just be considered a "survival tool?"

I mean, if good communication skills are needed (to at least be in the running for a job) how can that be considered as "selling out" when one knows that friends will not pay the bills for them for "keepin' it real?"

I guess you can think of it as a survival tool... because you will need proper spelling and grammer skills to excel in the workplace. It's a shame that your successes are viewed as selling out. There's no shame in being the best you can be! As long as you're not rubbing anyone's nose it in at home, they should accept you just the same. Good luck! :)

Yes it is,but none of us are perfect. You excel because you want to,not be idle because of what other people say.People that have no direction in life don't mind holding you back to if they can. They may like where they are. That doesn't mean you have to be like them just for there approval.Your not a sell out for wanting to better yourself. You know what you need to do,if they're your friends they will understand. If not, then they weren't real friends anyway. The way you think now is going to be a big factor in your future.Yes your grammar is a very useful survival tool in all aspects of your life. You want to keep it real, keep it real in your mind your the only one who should decide how you should use your grammar, not others.Love them anyway, but move on to your goals and dreams.Another suggestion(The Magic Of Thinking Big)Will show and help you how to be more positive and how to deal with the negative.

it's not hypocritical, I do it all the time.

People NEED to act differently at work, at home, and/or at school. It's totally normal. If you used bad grammar, no one would hire you.

It doesn't mean you're acting like a different person. just that you know how to act in different situations.
