My friend whom I work with's ex boyfriend will not leave her alone, but he lives 2 houses down from her. The reason she left is because he started drinking and pushing her around when he was drunk. I am trying to convince her to get a restraining order before something bad happens. She is holding back because she doesnt think the police will give her one being that he lives 100 feet away.

It won't hurt her to at least talk to the police about one, but if he's that bad and she can afford it, she may want to move and not let him know where. And get the restraining order too. And if he bothers to track her down after that, she definitely needs to let them know, and she needs to get away. But it doesn't really seem to be that serious, because if it was, wouldn't she want to move? If he's really after her, she at least needs to ask.

Tell her to go to the police. See what they can do. She may have to move? But which is the better choice?

An order of protection would prevent him from going where she works, her home and anywhere he knows she is. A violation of this order would be grounds for arrest.

If she goes to the police and tell them that she is threatened, then YES, they will give her one.

I don't see why not. Take him to court. Maybe he'll have to move.
