I will be going to college this fall and I have no idea what my major will be-I don't even have an answer when people ask me what my interests are. By going in undeclared, am I going to make college more difficult for myself. I just need some reassurance! Someone who entered college undecided-how did it work out for you?

Starting college as undeclared is no big deal. I was undeclared for my entire freshman year and had no idea what I wanted to do. It is actually kind of nice because you can take classes that your interested in and can get a nice exposure to several different fields. When I finally figured out that I wanted to be a speech pathologist, most of my credit hours counted towards the major and I am able to graduate on time in 4 years. Just make sure to take some of the basic classes - history, math, science, english, etc. These courses are usually required by all of the majors anyways.

Many colleges also have a good advising office for undecided students. They will sit and talk with you to help determine your interests. They can probably give you several professional contacts in different careers to shadow or interview. They may also give you the names of students in different majors that would be willing to talk to you about the programs.

Most of all, don't worry too much. Over 60% of all college students are undecided or transfer majors at least once during their college careers.

It's really smart. There are a lot of people who pencil in biology or business. But later find out they don't want to do that as a career. If you put undecided you can take all the general classes. You will also find out what you do like or not. Also you will most likely graduate in 4- years. if you take a lot of science classes and plan to not major in science but history that throws you off track. So cheers take time and find out what you like.

If you want to major in the sciences or engineering, then itis a good idea to know this when you start. But if you are getting a liberal arts degree, you don't really need to decide on your major until your Junior year. Take classes that interest you . Take classes that challenge you, too

i went in undecided and then i changed my majors about 5 times after that.. and i'm still graduating on time.. and i finally found a major that i really love.. so go in undecided and you'll have time to choose the major that you'll really like and won't have no doubt about it.. if you do just change it again..never too late to change..

See if you college had a interest exam. If they do take it and be very honest with your answers. Then research the careers it suggested.
