Motor/Transmission mounts would be smart while you have them exposed...they should be checked/changed every 100,000 or so.

Clutch cable. Easier to change with the engine out.

Change the trans-axle fluid...it never gets that done so you could be running the original stuff.

Tune-up the ignition system while you have the engine out and it is easy to get to the plugs and wires.

Adjust the valves to the recommended cold value. Valve cover gaskets. Check for signs of leaks, both oil and exhaust.

Engine compartment seal (it is the big rubber piece that sticks out horizontal that contacts the engine sheet metal). If it is dried out or missing pieces...it needs to be replaced. It's a hassle but it is important for having a cool running engine.

Maybe generator brushes while they are easy to get at.

Perry is on track-

become familiar with the term "you might as well"...
OK, there are so many things here its best to start at the begining:
Why did you take the trans out? (I hope you took it out with the engine attached, did you?)

You should look at this site and join the 912 club:
http://www.912bbs.org/index.php
Buy the "912 handbook" (aka- Orange book).

got-yas to watch- remove the fill plug on the tranny first- dont empty unless you can put something back!

IMHO- no need to replace linkages if you have never driven the car.

I'd check the shifter yoke and all the bushings in the shift linkage for wear.

Drain and flush the transmission and look for debris. If you see lots of brass, you may want to open the trans up. Of course, do all your engine and trans. seals, check your mounts, and install new clutch, plate, pilot bearing, clutch cable, etc.

You should change all seals. The front and rear. Change the oil pan gasket and transmission filter. Change any and all seals.
