You will do OK with just 1.3GB. I hope that you have a CD burner to save stuff.
Did you run Disk Cleanup from the Accessories - System Tools section?
Sorry, old computers won't run forever. Anything past 8 years is just luck. But your next computer might cost only $500 including EVERYTHING, so when you face the prospect of a new hard drive for $100, go for ALL NEW.

If I was in your shoes, I would save anything you really need, such as photos, videos, music, etc on a CD or DVD-R as a data disc using Nero software. Then wipe out the entire hard drive with the windows xp disc (or format the harddrive with a windows 98 boot up floppy disk and install the Operating System(windows 98,ME,200 or XP)) if you want to keep this hard drive.
I personally believe that hard drive is too small. I bought two 100 gig hard drives for $50 each at Fry's Electronics. See their website at www.outpost.com If you don't know how to format your hard drive, find some one who knows how, because you can mess up your computer! It's not hard though, but I don't know how much you know about pc's.
Another option is:
Buy a new hard drive and set the jumper to slave.
Set the old hard drive to master.
Transfer all your important files to the hard drive (drag and drop easy) local disc d is your new one.
Pretty much Done.

There are wonderful programs out there called drive overlays that should let you put at least up to a 30G drive in it.
Maxtor has maxblast and other software (I use this on my old P90 that won't let me have larger than an 8G drive), and quantum and others use Ontrack Disk Manager.
so, given that, you can ghost your drive to a larger one, and put a drive overlay into the master boot record of the drive to let you see the whole thing. Alternately, you can add a secon hard disk to the existing one.
That's my 2 cents worth.
Now if you simply don't have and can't get a larger drive, backup all those illegal MP3's and movies onto CD and DVD, and erase them from the drive. That's probably what's clogging it up.
Beyond that, try removing some of your software in safe mode, and make sure you don't have a worm eating up your hard disk space.
