I sleep with earplugs every night. It started when I moved to a house in which I slept on the same floor as my brother, who constantly coughs. Now I can't fall asleep without them. I'm kind of scared incase they cause some long term damage-like partial hearing loss or something bad like that! Does anyone know whether or not this is safe?

As far as I know, there is no harm done since earplugs are mostly external. They have no effect on the hearing aspect.

They shouldn't do anything. It's not like they are touching your eardrums. You can't fall asleep without earplugs I can't fall asleep without white noise. It's a personal preference that won't hurt you. You can also teach yourself not to wear them.
