Why is it that so many celebrities and people of power spend so much of their time and money on ending poverty in other countries when this country that they live in has a very high poverty level? If you were one of these celebrities would you try to help end poverty in America or in another country? How would you help end it?

It is related with social policy. And most of these celebrities would not be celebrities if they were not a part of the same system. They are products of the same mentality of the society.

Their examples are also exploited usually for an idea like "American dream", highlighting personal efforts, but not describing their social environment or why other people with similar qualities did not achieve even a little of it. And most of celebrities accept this exploitation as well as they have no necessary qualifications to understand societal systems. Feeling that they achieved all themselves satisfy them psychologically, even if that is not so true.

Not celebrities have to play a key role eliminating poverty, I think. Until our societies will accept that it is moral to hang destinies of many people on good hearts of some celebrities, poverty will flourish. Also as a mean to express "cordiality" by some rich.

I believe "celebrity" is just another term for someone who is getting paid to do a job. However, they do get paid way to much. Anyway, I would spend it here, but I have never been to another country so I couldn't tell you who would benefit more. I mean, I know there are a lot of people in America who could benefit from money, but how about other countries? I couldn't answer you in any other way because I have not had the experience in other countries.

a very good question. Charity starts at home, or so they say. I just wish I had a right answer for you. My heart aches for all the people who have to work so hard and can't even get out of poverty level. To think how rich we are in the USA and have people sleeping on the streets a block from the luxury of the White House. I think Bill Gates and others will start to with programs so we can educate people so they can get good jobs. We have to start with the education.

Poverty will never end until God intervenes. Also, don't believe in charities. They suck up most of the money into administrations and lining the pockets of the management. Donating money to governments i.e., African governments only line the pockets of those in power. Very little to nothing goes to the people that need it.

charity starts at home, thats where we learn, compared to other countries ppl in the states are more charitable(and I lived abroad) its not only how much money you give but also volunteering your time as well
I would like to help end poverty here first before going abroad but if money is really needed for something we should always give without thinking twice

b/c celebrities seem to get more publicity to help those (mostly children) in need in other countries who don't live in big cities, but instead villages where it is not technological and more of a 3rd world country.

the us is seen as fast-forward country that has opportunity. the usa's equivalent would be the homeless. there is a stigma against the homeless to be grungy gross and ill-mannered. i mean, could you see angelina jolie slipping a homeless guy a 20?

Its too expensive to help Americans ....so they make themselves look good and spend pennies a day to feed a whole village (Angelina Jolie)

They are only doing it to make themselves look good. It's not like they really care about those people, it's just good publicity. Just like Bono, he's a giant douche.
