The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Start Your Own Lawn Care Business (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Up) by Eileen Figure Sandlin
* Start & Run A Landscaping Business by Joel LaRusic
* How to Start a Home-Based Landscaping Business, 4th by Owen Dell
* Lawn Care & Gardening: A Down-To-Earth Guide to the Business by Mickey Willis

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Get info on all the other landscaping businesses in the area. Figure out something none of them do and offer it to the people so they take your business over the competition. Join the local business group and ask if you can put business cards or fliers in next to cash registers or in entryways. The best places to do this are bars and restaurants and it is free advertising a lot of people will see. Good luck.

I would star slow...keep the day job or at least get a steady PT day job....build up a customer base. Try little ads in those flyers and newspapers you see in grocery stores. Build a webpage if you know how. Hand out flyers door to door. Don't take on too much at once. You want to keep the customers you get so don't do a rush job trying to get too many appointments into a day.

Be sure you have enough to invest in case the business doesn't work out. Be positive but plan for the worst just in case. Good luck!

Your husband can start to have his own website. Register here: http://www.website.ws/powercontrol

I have my own website done throught the above link too and you can refer here as a sample: http://www.silverroad.ws

The first page of the website can be used for his bonsai collection, second page maybe for his landscaping products and so on...

All the best!!

Make flyers off your computer, and place them all over the place. People will get the idea, start out cheap though on prices, then raise it a bit due to the price of gasoline
