I thought the United States DID slip into a severe recession. Tens of thousands of Americans have lost their jobs under the Bush administration.
So-called war on terrorism aside...
Every time I hear a story about Katrina, and especially stories of how the survivors are STILL suffering, I can't help but think that there's nothing Bush can do now to redeem himself or his administration.
The loss of personal freedoms is unbelievable. Government listening in on phone calls of citizens with no warrant whatsoever? George Orwell seems to have only been off on the date, but not the events!
The "balance of power" that has always been the foundation of American society has been eroded under the Bush administration to the point where the Supreme Court and Congress seem almost impotent. Bush sidesteps them all the time to avoid being told "no". And even when he's forced to go to them and is told "no," he still does whatever he wants. Scary!
The only good thing I can think of is that he made that huge area surrounding a coral reef near Hawaii into a protected area in order to preserve the unique habitat found there.

Well, he's helping to exterminate all those pesky trees clogging up our National forests. After all, there's no need to worry about forest fires if we don't have any trees to burn.
He's also made great progress in breaking down our Constitutional rights (except for the 2nd Amendment of course). I didn't like all that "freedom of speech" or protection form "unlawful search and seizure" crap anyway.
And what about gas prices? The man is a true environmentalist. It's utter genius. Raise the gas prices and folks will drive less. That means less pollution and then we can coexist with the fish. It's just like GW said. It warms my heart.
These are just a few of the wonderful things Bush has done for us.

I know there are all kinds of arguments both ways about Mr. Bush vs. Mr. Clinton. Clinton actually did a great job. Maybe he was lucky with the economy, etc. Maybe he was just that good. But the one thing Mr. Bush has done in my view is restore the honor of the presidency. Mr. Clinton had managed to reduce the office of the president to a bit of a dark alley.
Mr. Bush has had some, shall we say, challenges though. Both Mr. Clinton and Mr. Bush (W) have had their high points and their low points. But at least I don't find myself wondering what is going on under the president's desk.

Tax cuts, the economy IS booming, unemployment is down, raises for the military (they sorely need it!), illegalizing partial-birth abortion (this has little to do with morals, though it is wrong. It's just an inhumane procedure!), took a fair stance on illegal immigration, has exhausted all diplomatic avenues before entering into war with Iraq and Afghanistan, is exhausting diplomacy regarding Iran and Korea, is staying out of what our allies are doing, and the surveillance, which despite the controversy it's turned out that it helps rather than harms us.
As for what he's TRIED to do (and failed because of Congress):
He tried to put a cap on lawyer's fees to cut down on the amount of ridiculous lawsuits that do nothing except clog our judicial system and cost us money.
He tried to make it so that all states would have to be united on a volatile issue (same-sex marriage.)
There's more but I can't think of it right now. I'll finish this later. It's almost 3 am and I've been up for almost 24 hours, lol.

Bush inherited an economy in recession; nine months after his inauguration the U.S. was attacked because the previous administration had been negligent in securing the country. Since Bush has been in office, the U.S. economy is rocking; unemployment is very low; economic growth is solid; there have been no more attacks in the U.S. All this despite natural disasters, obtuse democrats in Congress, and fickle allies in Europe. Bush has been an awesome president & America is better because of him.

taxation with representation and free oil and peace love and pursuit of happiness and happiness throughout the country and better understanding of terrorism, and better healthcare and more help for the poor and more help for the elderly and above all brought a higher awareness of how truly lucky we are to have such a smart president! NOT ANY OF THESE, SO NO NOT ANYTHING TO SPEAK OF

One example:
Enacted tax and economic reforms to stabilize, then completely recover from the single worst attack ever launched against the American mainland, in the heart of our most important financial district no less. Without the policies enacted, we could have slipped into a severe recession.

Since none of you people apparently have jobs or have to support yourself, I'll point out that the economy is booming and he has kept my taxes low. In addition, unemployment is extremely low.
With that and keeping terrorism at bay, what else do you people want?
