Rats! I have had guinea pigs, bunnies, cats, dogs, mice, frogs, fish but I prefer rats! Rats are small, take up little space and are affectionate, smart and unfortunately have a 2-3 year lifespan. I have had the best ratties for pets! Hand pick a pair of females or a male and you have a real love! They like to be on your shoulder, sit in your bed, try your food, be your buddy to talk to and best of all they don't talk back. They only make a funny noise with their teeth when they are contented! I had one who was like a little dog. She begged, jumped up on me...of course, she has the been my only one like this though I have had about 20 in the past ten years. I think those kind are a rarity! I say rat!

I would say a Guinea pig. They are easier to take care of than a rabbit, which is a lot more work than people imagine. Hamsters seem to want to get out of the cage most of the time. Guinea pigs love to be held, make cute noises and are clean animals. They are so sweet! I had one that just loved having her cheeks rubbed!

Guinea pigs in my opinion are very excellent pets. They show affection like cats and dogs but are also small. They show a lot of emotion too as opposed to other small rodents. For example, if you walk into a room they squeal because they are happy to see you.

a really great and small pet is a chinese dwarf hamster. they look like mice but are little bigger and not as freakishly hyper. though they do like to run on thier wheels. they dont need that much care food, water. clean cage. and they are really fun to play with cause they fit in the palm of your hand!!

Rats have a bad rap, but they make great pets. They are really clean animals & most are really smart (we do have a little white airhead now, but she's very sweet).
They tend to be a little more durable than hamsters, but you still need to watch the little ones with them.

Guinea pigs are the sweetest pets! They chirp at you when you pet them, or notice the rattle of their food bag...They are fairly easy to maintain, and clean up after. You would have good company when you want it and quiet when you need that.

Definitely gerbils. Hamsters are nocturnal, so they keep you up an night. I also had a leopard gecko once, and she was adorable. Didn't do much, but she was still cute.
