English is the official language of the UNITED STATES and i believe that anyone who comes into OUR country should learn the ENGLISH language.. leave YOUR language from YOUR country in YOUR country! Plain and Simple.
cause we have to learn theirs before we go into their country.. so its only Right for them to learn ours!
to many people walking around this country not knowing how to speak English is ridiculous!

How far do you want to take it? No Spanish names for places like Los Angeles or Texas or Colorado? No French words like Boulevard or Saint? Obviously you won't be able to say Taco or Burrito any more. A great thing about English, one of its biggest strengths, is that it changes, it grows, it absorbs things from other languages so it makes it possible to be far more precise than other languages. Read something written 100 years ago, see how much the language has changed. It will be different 100 years in the future, too.

You did learn English everyone who speaks in English learned it we just had the added agony of it being the hardest to learn that's why American children that speck English as their first language learn full sentences after a child learning any other language so I would say man I'm lucky that I learned it first because when u compareed any other language learning English as a second language is practically killer lol

I totally agree with you! If people want to come to America, they should learn to speak the language that is spoken by the majority of the people. However, America has no OFFICIAL language since we are made up of many nationalities. Basically, if you want to get right down to it, we should have learned to speak as the indians did. They were here first!!!

I don't hear anyone ehere speaking Siouxan, or Nahuatl, Uto-Aztecan, Keresen, Dine, or Caddoan.
But it doesn't matter. Spanish is coming; when you're in the water are you gunna drown or swim?
I speak Spanish and I'm VERY happy I do. It gives hope to so many immigrants, legal and illegal, that there are Americans (the minority, it seems), who care that you're a PERSON and NOT your language.
I just wish I knew more languages. I know three, and I want to learn Vetnamese and/or Chinese

Actually, the United States has no official language, or at least none at the federal level. Didn't you learn that in school?

I am. I think English should be our official language. Can you imagine the French discussing this because a lot of Dutch people keep sneaking over the border.
Of course this isn't a problem because so many Dutch and French also speak ENGLISH.....

Gee? If we are going to make English the official language, I firmly believe that we should make a more concerted effort to speak it.

Why disapointed? Why should we have bilingual school teachers and dual books-Spanish and English? You ever gotten your drivers license in LosAngeles? The driver manual is available in at least six languages ! Who pays for that? It is NOT the immigrants. If they can't read the test in English, how can they obey street signs and laws? Guess you have never driven in Mexico. World's worst drivers next to the French.
