At least it sounds like it's coming from my monitor. My speakers are independent from my monitor. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard, could this be some kind of interference? It's not loud and it comes and goes, but it sure is annoying.

Most of the time a monitor will whine because the sealant on the flyback, which is a high voltage transformer, could be coming off or it could be the deflection yoke and associated geometry correction coils.

The reason you hear it is because of the cycle it's going in. If it's indeed the sealant you will have to take it to a shop for them to repair it there.
DO NOT try to do this yourself due to an extremely high voltage shock hazard, even when unplugged. It doesn't hurt the monitor to run this way, but it sure does get annoying!

EDIT

Occasionally this will happen when you have the monitors resolution set too high, first try readjusting it to a lower setting.

Do you still have the speakers from the monitor plugged in to the computer somewhere? Unplug the monitor speakers altogether and wind the wire up. Use the volume control on the monitor itself and turn the volume level all the way down to 0. Usually there is some sort of on screen display that will show the setting for your monitor, one of those 500 buttons on the front of the monitor will bring up a on screen display where you can make adjustments to the monitor itself independently of the computer.

Change the skin on your MP3 player.
Sometimes high contrast colorpatterns can cause a monitor to emit a rather high frequency whine.
See if minimizing the player makes it stop also.
If none of that works, turn off the monitor while playing an mp3 to be sure it's really the monitor. if the sound is still there with the mopnitor off, it's coming from the speakers. Very high frequencies can be hard to pinpoit the location of.

I am only aware of cell phones and cordless phones causing such interfearance. The only time your monitor would make such a noise with the speakers is if either the monitor or the speakers are really old. I hope that helps.
