Considering that you put this under the Teacher category, I will say that the word "stupid" is a badword for a teacher to say. A teacher should uplift his/her students, not tear them down. I also think that teachers should "police" the use of that word by their students in the classroom, as it may result in the discouragement of a classmate.

In some peoples opinion stupid is a bad word but in my opinion it is not a bad word. Just like retard, stupid is a word that describes how well the brain funtions. If used in the wrong way stupid can be considered an insult.

it really depends when and where you use the word.

like if i were to say you're stupid for doing something wrong that would be incorrect cuz its not right to degrade a person like that and i would be making a big impact in your life with just one word. like hate....stupid can dig in deep, and it will.

well, the word stupid is not all THAT bad. if used correctly, it can act as a warning sign. like one time i was dressing up for a party, and i wore a blue shirt and a GREEN tie. my sisters saw it and they were like omigosh those colours look totally stupid. yeah so i went away with a new outfit.

sorry if have been off topic so far, but in my honest opinion, after some careful analysis with this world's context, i would have to say...yes...it is a bad word. but not all the time.

Its opinion. Everything is simply opinion. However there is also a time, situation and appropriate place for everything, for example if your in school and a peer gets up to read something they wrote and you in turn tell them it was stupid, your teacher along with the student may find it offensive. However if you are hanging out with friends and in play call each other stupid, it may not only be accepted, but considered funny.

Since your asking yes it is a bad word if you use it to describe someone intelligents or lack of. In certain context I guess some people feel comfortable using it but myself I never use it as my parents forbid it ans I as an adult can not stand the use of the word.

It was lunchtime at the day care that I worked for (once upon a time), and in the three-year-old room, there was another teacher and I, each at our own horseshoe-shaped table, surrounded by kids. One of the children at the other table asked, "'Stupid' is a bad word, isn't it Miss Kay?"
One of the boys at my table piped up, "No, 'bastard' is a bad word."

The moral of the story: Once you reach three years of age, the word 'stupid' is the least of your worries.

It can be considered rather derogatory and degrading even if it's the truth. Some people's sensibilities are easily offended.
