It's called "keeping up with the Jones." Some people don't want their neighbor to out do them. They have to have the biggest, the newest and the best. They feel they have to find out what others have so they can do one better.
It's seems to be a growing trend these days.

Huh? Where do you live? Histeria Lane? I have always cared less about what my neighbors have, and they are normally mortgaged to the hilt. Their credit cards are maxed as well.
