get an oil change every 3000 miles or 6 months

Nice car. I bet you haven't even checked the oil. It's probably very low, this is why it is over heating. The oil in your engine plays a substantial role in cooling the engine. If there isn't enough in it, it doesn't have time to release that heat through the oil pan and to the air.
Your engine has been under a lot of strain because of your inattention to basic car maintenance, maybe if you follow the maintenance schedule better your car will last a long time and be reliable when you really need it.

Depend on the miles and usage. I bet your oil is so thick now it is turning to sludge. You know the old saying "pay me now or pay me later". This really applies to oil changes. Failure to change your oil can absolutley wreck your engine.
You need to get this done right away. Ask the mechanic if the oil looked normal when it was drained. You might get away with a flush product that they can use before they replace the oil. May cost a few bucks, but maybe will save your engine id the damage is not too bad.

Change your cars oil and oil filter every 3000 miles or every 6 months even if you don't drive it 3000 miles- If you don't drive it at all during a years time have it conditioned to be stored. You really need to service your vehicle on schedule it is very important "when your car breaks down on the road it blocks the road for the rest of us". I suggest that you take the bus, ride a bike or maybe walk.

well sorry to hear that you went a year between oil changes. Best of luck to you. I guess it really depends on how many miles you have driven in that year. Less than 3000 probably ok unless oil has been consumed. Then that could be your problem with the overheating. Or your coolant could be low.

Definitely get an oil change! Your car can't run well on dirty oil. You may notice the car running a lot differently after the oil change too.

tmb37 is right. the only way oil can cause overheating is to have none in the engine .If you let your oil go like that I'm sure you havent done any thing with the cooling system. That is where your problem is.

Over heating and an oil change are two different things. Take it the shop. You might have a radiator problem. AND CHECK YOUR OIL. OR IT WON"T MATTER IF YOU ARE OVER HEATING.

sounds like you need: an oil change, an oil filter change, a look at your engine's cooling system... in other words, just take it to the shop, get a tune up and and don't whine when the mechanic tells you a lot of stuff needs replacing!

Take it to a mechanic. I learned the hard way oil changes are very much worth the time and money. I hope it's not too late to fix your car.
