Hey! Some might say cannibalism is natural. Is it OK if I have your liver for dinner? Sure, you want it. Don't be in denial!

I know you are going to get some very harsh and angry answers to this. You are either brave or stupid! One thing I would be very interested to know, just as a side track, is would you ask this in the pub just as freely as you would online.

Inspite if its bitter taiste, the question is an important one.

The Hindu's may have something on this. When a man takes a vow of silence and becomes a hermit he is separateing himself from all society. After a month or so, he becomes his nature, he no longer thinks with thoughts but with actions, images. Without the language of the society that until that point dictated his behaviour. If you want to know what human nature really is see this.

This is why a man returning to society requires a guru to see him back into society and allow him to maintain all he has learned as a hermit. To protect him from himself. Or to protect society...

For sure rape is so common in society it is obserd to say that it is not natural, just as violence is natural. But is it justifiable? In the same instance, if you look at the animal world and much of human world so in incest.

We have developed a culture, a society that is held together by rules, written or otherwise. We have developed an empathy and through these our rules conclude that hurting others, especialy those close to you, is wrong. We descovered that if we stick together we stand a better chance of survival - to stick together we cant go arround doing things that hurt others even if avoiding this goes against our very natural urges.

Sorry no spell check working.....

There are no natural rights. Environmentalism is about a safe environment, not a natural one (most environmentalists live in houses with air conditioning, etc.) Raw food advocates make the mistake of looking only at objective nutrition numbers and not at how these numbers are effected by capacity to digest (which is enghanced by cooking). Appeals to human nature are usually rationalizations of weakness or defaults to ignorance.

Nothing is justified because it is natural. Generally nature does not function on the level of justification; its standards are much more visceral and immediate. I am not saying nature is inherently cruel, either, because this would amount to a category mistake, applying moral language where it doesn't fit.

All that said, humans have the natural capacity to apply reason, which leads to considerations of 'ought' and 'ought not' - morality. Given these capacitites, evidence shows that even hardened criminals have difficulty dealing with the psychological trauma of recognizing the injury their actions cause. This in itself suggest that such behavior is not justifiable.

For animals, there is no such thing as rape. The idea simply doesn't apply. For humans it does, and the act is unnatural.

Prohibition on rape is purely cultural.
There is ample support for it in US case law.
For example In 1980 there were case when immigrant Hmong kidnapped and raped women, because it was an acceptable way to get a bride in Laos.
The charges of rape were eventually dropped and the perp only got a slap on the wrist, because Hmong did know that rape was wrong.(People v. Moua) [1]

But since our culture clearly prohibits rape, people must abide. Besides, often cultural modifications of natural instincts works better then "natural way".
Prohibiting rape is a good example. At this point in time rape does WAY more harm then good, seeing as there is no more caveman anymore who need to procreate fast, and have no time to convince anybody.

P.S. Eating bread is another good example, you know its better then eating raw meat, although it is less natural.

Rape is not 'sexy'; it isn't even about sex. Sex is used as the outlet. Rape is about violence and control. Rape takes away the victims freedom of choice and therefore rightly is morally reprehensible and against secular law.

I'm afraid not, or else murder and stealing would be justified as well.

Most people don't function well in a system of anarchy, mainly because they are too weak to survive without a stable government to protect them.

How is rape natural? No one has the right to violate another person.

There is nothing natural about rape, therefore rape is never justified.
