When you break your digits (aka fingers and thumbs) you cannot move them. There is a great deal of pain. I also know what you mean about shutting your hand in a door. You should call your doctor and they will recommend that you take an advil (or 4) ice your hand and rest your hand (and if your like me you are already saying yeah right). If it is not better in the morning (pain lessened) then you will be asked to get an xray. Yes they can fix fingers (toes you just were stiff shoes so that you lessen the pain). But fingers they will set, so that you cannot move them.

First, have you been to hospital to have it checked?

My husband broke his thumb on a boating accident last year....it was broken in about 5 pieces so fixing it was quite a problem and difficult. But they did it, he can move it, but it's not quite the same as it used to be.

Good luck!

Yes you can, but the oddest thing about a broken finger is it only hurts for a little while and then it gets kind of heaty feeling and swells the pain almost vanishes. They can try and fix them but every toe or finger I've ever broken healed broke.

I'm sure you just bruised and sprained it, you can still move a broken finger/thumb if it is broke above the joint, but if you break the base you probably couldn't do to extreme pain.

Yes, in some cases, but it would be painful, if it is recent get ice on it to take the swelling down (15 mins in every hour) once the swelling has gone down you should be able to see if it's broken. If it still is as painful or more painful go to your doctor for a referral for an x-ray it could be fractured (Not always visible to the naked eye),Easily fixed!!

You may still be able to move it. A few years ago my right thumb got stuck into a door in my house. It was very painful, I am sure it was broken . I was still able to move my thumb. My thumb healed on its own after a while.

yes they can, recently a friend of mine got her thumb broken too, and now it is ok. And the fact that you can move it doesn't mean much because most of the times you can move it the thing is how much does it hurts when you do it. So better have it checked

You could still move it if it was broken. If you can wiggle it side to side then the ligament is okay. If the pain is in the top bit not much to do but if pain in middle or at base it's best to check it-especially in dominant hand.

Hard to describe a broken bone in words except to say it really hurts and will swell and you had better get an x-ray so if need be it can immobilized so that it will heal properly.
