As far as I can find out, Albert Einstein at one time was consulting with the Navy on the effect of very strong magnetic fields on materials. I believe the intent may have been to evade radar. I do believe the rumors about the experiments got out of hand. I personally do not believe there ever was much to the stories.

If it's also called, "The Philadelphia Experiment" try looking it up at Wikipedia. They have loads of info there.

I seem to remember an article about the U.S. making a ship disappear and reappear and all the crew had gone mad.
