Let him wear a life jacket in the pool to show him that its ok. I am dealing with that with my 7yo. He is having trouble learning to swim cause he is afraid when his feet cannot touch the bottom or when his face is in the water. I'm getting him to work on the going under thing by having him pick up objects in water shallow enough to stand it but deep enought he had to go under to get it. When he does he grab on to me or nearest object when he does...cause his feet come off the bottom of the pool.

be patient with him. Give him praises for swimming in whatever feet he can handle. Just don't stop practicing with him. My son went through the same thing and now he is an excellent swimmer. ooh don't base his rate of learning with the other kids let him learn at his own pace, the fact is he's got the foundation.

Go out to the deep end and have a good time. He'll come out when he's ready or lonely enough.

i don't think you should pressure him--i never took swimming lessons, but can doggy paddle. at least he can swim. when he gets comfortable enough in the water, i'm sure he'll venture into the deep end. spend as much time as possible in the pool and just let him get confident in his ability.

First act like ur drowning at the deep end and start screaming for help to that 11 year old,
Then maybe that kid might come and try and save u.
Or maybe that kid might run and call for help, i just don't know try it ur self to see if it works.
Bye!

My nephew is 7 and he can swim. If your so worried about it why didn't you have in a pool at a earlier age? Don't scare him then he will never do it.

Either go in with him, or let him figure it out for himself. Eventually he'll want to go swim with the other kids.
