...because it was patterned after the arrangement of the letters in the typewriter which was the medium of business communication even before computers came into the scene.
the layout in the typewriter is designed in such a way that the tantalizing near-alphabetical sequence on the "home row" of the QWERTY layout (d-f-g-h-j-k-l) suggests that a straightforward alphabetical arrangement may have been the original starting point.
It is also efficient because it requires a touch-typist to move his or her fingers between rows to type the most common letters. QWERTY arrangement was designed to reduce the likelihood of internal clashing by placing commonly used combinations of letters farther away from each other inside the machine

The order of the keyboard is the same as the type writers this was designed to slow people down so the heads won't get stuck but the computer industry adopted it there have been attemps to change it but consumers like the Qwerty keyboard better maybe because they are more used to them know.

The qwerty keyboard system was invented by Christopher Sholes to stop typewriters from getting stuck by moving commonly used letters away from eachother. It also makes typing more efficient, because many words are typed by alternating hands.

when they first came out with the keyboard (typewriter) it was in alphabetical order but people would hit the keys so fast that it would jam up and the keys would wear out. so by scrabling the letters such as they are now, it slowed people's typing down making the typewriters and the keys last longer... thats how we got the qwert keyboard
