As a minor, you can't get an agent, unless your parents sign an Agency Contract for you.

First of all, ask for references; other people they have represented and can prove that they have worked.

Actually first of all, get an adult to help you. You need a guardian or a parent to enter into contracts with an agent.

Secondly, check with the state. Some places like California, they have to be licensed and are only allowed to charge a certain percentage of the work they get you. They should not charge a flat fee, but it should be based on what you make through their efforts.

Check the Screen Actors Guild (SAG); they must have a website; they would list agents that are approved, they would also have tips on picking out an agency. Some actors websites will also have the agency they are with and you may have some comfort that they are the real deal.

You want an agent and not a manager, as managers are not as regulated and can charge alot.

If the agent wants you to get headshots from a particular photographer, you know they are getting a kickback and may be out to scam you. But you will need headshots, and a resume of your experience and talents ie horseback riding, skating.

Act in local theatre productions, or anything you can get into. Experience counts.Even community theatre.

Good luck.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

If they are on the up-and-up, they shouldn't charge you a penny. They get their money from those looking to hire the talent.
