we are trying to prove a point to my cousin and are trying to tell her that it is the upside down triangle. are we right. or is it the rainbow as she says.

i believe that yes the rainbow flag is the flag of the gays. but also the upside down triangle is the symbol, because if you remember back just rember the teletubby's and the big stink over the the supposed gay one.

Art_rat is right. The pink triangle was pinned on gay men by Nazis. Every sort of person in the concentration camps had a different color triangle. Gays were the most hated and the pink triangle was the largest - to make sure they were the biggest target for abuse. The rainbow (usually with six, instead of seven colors) is a symbol of diversity in general and often used by gays now.
