why do white people want to get tanner?
dark people get light/lighterskinned?
the darker a black woman is the more whiter her features have to be. am i wrong or right? some 1 explain this to me..
why do white people like or feel the need to be tan?
its a waste of money and good skin.

For a lot of white people, being TANNED is equated with HEALTH and with enough WEALTH to spend their time OUTDOORS instead of working in an office.
So it's a prestige and leisure status thing with some white people.
Agree that this tanning craze is a waste of money and ruins good skin.

Most of us are only non-tanned because we spend so much time in clothes and office cubicles. If we all lived in year round warmth in the southern states, with minimal clothing, we'd all be darker anyway. The sun feels good/ I work outside everyday and I naturally get darker skin (being sicilian helps with that, though). Frankly, if more people are attracted to that for some reason, why not use it?

it originates from the 1900's when the rich people would go to the French Riviera for vacation and come back tan. So now tanness is associated with money. Before travel became so easy, pale was the old tan, because only poor people were tan from working outside, and the mobility stayed inside and stayed pale. It's all about looking rich.

as someone that does not tan, i am tired of people teasing me about blinding them with my white legs. for some a tan just makes you fit in better. or at least makes you feel like you do.
i dont tan, not because i dont want to or dont have time to be outside, but my skin does not tan. when i get a burn i will peel after a couple of days and be just as white as before.

i'm white but during the summer i get really tan. but i just love to be out in the sun. i love it when it's hot outside and everyone's skin is out in the open for everyone to see. sometimes i lay out, not because i want to be darker but just because it feels good to lay there and sweat and then jump into some cool water. it's not always about what you look like.

You should have asked, "Why do SOME white people want to get tanner?" I'm white, most people I know are white, none want to be any more "tanner". Of the black people I know, they are as black as they ever were and have never mentioned wanting to be more white.

I don't think its just a white thing to be tan, Hispanics have beautiful skin and so do blacks, We're in a temparary body so why not enjoy it. LOVE vitamin D from the sun..

They just tan in the sun, and get a sun burn. I guess because they're not afraid of anything, they want to look special or maybe because it feels good?

I like to have some tan because without my skin is the color of raw chicken meat...and that isn't pretty.
