i am from the u.s. and want to know why so many countries don't like us?

Because you are the most powerfull country in the world. I'm from England and we get it too..we are the most powerfull country in Europe.. so we get as much stick as you do and i guess with Blair and Bush sticking together the way they do both country's are open to hatred.
Just ask yourself this....Would you want to be any different?
You are probably the only country in the world that would ever help out the Brit's.
I'm sorry to say this but i do think that a lot of it is envy, after all our country is probably the most ridiculed in europe, but where do people from all over the world go to when there in desperate need? Here.
You know yourself as an American..you get hassle if you try to help another country and hassle if you don't, the one at the top of the pile alway's get's the hassle, that's what it mean's to be a powerfull nation, which is what you are.

As an American I have to say this was a very good question. Although I may not agree with all the reasons given, I find it enlightening. I've always found other countries interesting and I always look for the good in others. I don't condone the war, but I support our troops who are over there fighting for the U.S. by putting their lives on the line. Not everyone agrees with the reasons we went to war, a lot of us agree with you other countries, but we HAVE to support the young men and women over there who are doing their job. We're not all "flashy", unfortunately... as in other countries, some of the "flashy" people don't always represent the U.S. in the best light, just like some people we've met from your countries don't always represent your country well either. I have traveled to many countries and don't brag about my possessions and I try to be an educated traveler and don't ask some of the obvious "silly" questions. And certainly not all of us are obese. I know that in the media there have been lots of discussions on the obesity of Americans, but not everyone is stick thin all over the world. Like I said, I appreciate the views you've given and I've found this really interesting. Thanks for your views!

Very good question.I'll try to answer it.Lets see....
1. Regards itself as the champion of democracy, but supports dictators like Pervez Musharraf, the Saudis, China etc.
2.Unilaterally decides what is good for a sovreign nation and what is bad.It can have nuclear facilities and weapons, other countries can't.
3. Refuses to use its own vast oil reserves and buys its oil from the Mid East, thus forcing oil prices up, making it harder for the poor countries to get oil. Has gone to war to procure oil.
4. Has supported guerillas and terrorists in numerous countries and has undermined the power of elected governments.
5.Have an irrational belief that they are the best country in the world and the world should go down in its knees to acknowledge it.(They've saved the world a zillion times from all kinds of awful fates, a la, Hollywood movies)
6 American leaders are just a shade less clueless about the rest of the world as its public.Moreover, they make no effort to learn about the rest of the world nor do they learn from their mistakes.
7.It chooses to waste its resources, rather than to give it to the poorest of nations(it refuses to cancel their debts as well)
8. It is not doing enough to stop carbon emissions.
9.It fosters war rather than peace between countries.
10.Its corporations shape its political policy and have an economic stranglehold in many parts of the world.

Some or all of these reasons and some more make the rest of the world hate the US.If you dont play according to its rules, it makes you pay a heavy price, even though it has no moral authority to do so.

Because most of us ....Americans... are too self absorbed and greedy to see that we do not rule the world and that we could very well cause the death of it. Americans pretend to care, they pretend to be open minded, and they pretend they are free. None of these things apply to most. They are selfish and want only their own conforts and as long as they have them... they care not who slaved or sweated to give them. They are the most close minded I've ever met... when one thinks they know everything and that their way is the only... they are not open to appreciating any other way. Freedom is slowly being squeezed from our 'rights'... and without much confrentation due to the numbing stuper most Americans are in these days. I've traveled the world and am now unable to go many places due to America 'saving' it. People hate America for the reasons our government and media won't tell us about. Try watching some BBC sometime.... for starters.
PS. For the most part, I hate my home country mostly due to it's bullheaded insitance on destroying nature and all that lives in it... as if we are immune.

P.S. Listen to these previous statements... the ones form other countries that is. Notice the only 'answers' that are rediculous and uneducated are the ones from Americans. It makes me feel hope and happiness when reading the words of others abroad... they can make sentences!

Because you interfere with other countries and wage war on countries weaker than you. Because you fund terrorism in Ireland. Because your tourists are rude and obnoxious and offend people when they go abroad. Because you are perceived (rightly or wrongly) as being ignorant, insular and caring only about yourselves. Because you are always boasting about being the greatest country on earth even though your country was based on the extermination of native indians and the oppression and slavery of black africans. Because you are loud and flashy and over the top.

Thats just a few. Not saying I agree with all these points but those are the main complaints Europeans have against America.

I have no problem with Americans or the country my Friend: it has many beautiful places and fantastic people!!

It's the politics and arrogant attitude that your government have that they rule the world and everything in it: not just the US, I can't stand... and how they seam to pick and choose the countries they invade/start a war with/assist etc depending on how it will benefit 'Them': and not the country involved!!
