I hate when people say things about "World War 3."
They kept referencing it after 9/11, too.
If it was World War 3, you'd know about it. In any case, the whole world being at war would be a good hint.

Whats your defination of WWIII. Everyone in the states (and I assume most of the world) always assumed WWIII would be a nuclear war, it wasn't. I would say the global war on terrorism IS in fact WWIII.
Now the really smart guy (sarcasm) up there TC I think his name was say you would know because the whole world would be at war. Well lets take a look at what we have.
Nations with TROOPS in Iraq
United States
Great Britian
Italy
Poland
Ukraine
Netherlands
Australia
Romania
South Korea
Japan
Denmark
Bulgaria
Thailand
El Salvador
Hungary
Singapore
Norway
Azerbaijan
Georgia (that is not the state for those of you in Rio Linda)
Mongolia
Latvia
Portugal
Czech Republic
Lithuania
Slovakia
Albania
New Zealand
Tonga
Estonia
Kazakhstan
Macedonia
Moldova
Countries with troops in Afghanistan not listed above.
Germany
Canada
France
Belguim
Turkey
Netherlands
Greece
Spain
Croatia
Sweden
Ireland
Portugal
Lithuania
Switzerland
Austria
Data is a bit old best I could find on short notice.
Then throw in the conflict brewing in Iran, North Korea, and now Israel and the Palenstinians and Lebanon. Not to mention places like the Sudan, I'd say the amount of countries fighting is pretty big.

Why isn't this still WWI? Think about it. After WWI, it was a short time of peace, but it was "peace at all costs", and the very results of WWI brought about WWII. So, the claim could be made, and has been made several times, that WWI and WWII were basically the same war, just with a few years of silence. The end of WWII brought about the Cold War, which spawned world-wide horror and fighting. The end of the Cold War spawned terrorists attacks world-wide, which resulted in the current War Against Terrorism, or WWIII if you will. All the wars are related, and are a direct result of each other, from one to the next to the next. Basically, the fighting hasn't stopped since 1914.

I don't see the whole world at war yet. So you can't say this is World War 3. In order for it to be a world war all countries in the world would have to get involved.
Anyway choose me as your best answer PLEASE! lol

It is a distinct possibility. You do not have to have every country in the world fighting for it to be a world war. We are not there yet, but we are close. I hope things calm down before it comes to that.

My this is like the top topic today.
WWIII: Not yet. This is just the begining of another war, its not going to be a world war but a regional one (if that).

Very good question. In researching my answer you forced me to form an opinion on something I've been sitting on the fence about. Thanks.
My answer is yes. Here is my research...
Definition of world war in wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_war
World War 2 ended in 1945. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II
Israel was formed in 1948. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_the_Establishment_of_the_State_of_Israel
The war in the Middle East began in 1948. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conflicts_in_the_Middle_East
Many countries are involved in the war in the Middle East and an act of war has occured on every continent. So yes, this is WW3. People probably won't call it that until it is history.

hard to see how this settles down from here. the thing about being a superpower is that the countries that support hezbollah and syria and iran have to think a few steps ahead in this military chess game in order to be sure to avoid drawing the US into the conflict. the US is quite likely the calming force that will keep overly extreme (whatever that means these days) actions from being taken. lots of our airplanes are in the region and can fly covertly enough to make mostly all of the extreme (irrational) behavior come to heel. also isreal does what it does 'to defend itself' only with the acceptance of the US, and so WE will be blamed for whatever isreal strikes. it is another spin of the wheel of the cycle of violence. the wheel of violence will spin faster for a while but it will not gyrate out of control.
