Tuna is to be avoided when pregnant due to high mercury levels (a result of industrial pollution). Mercury increases the risk for nervous system damage in infants and children. The levels of mercury are actually higher than previously thought, as reported on June 5, 2006 in Consumer Reports. Shellfish should be eaten sparingly, too, and it is recommended that pregnant women eat no more than 12 ounces of shellfish per week, and no more than 6 ounces of tuna per week.

Some types of fish may contain high levels of mercury, which can cause damage to the developing nervous system of a fetus, and should not be eaten at all by pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children. The FDA recommends that pregnant women eat no more than 6 ounces a week of albacore (or white) tuna or tuna steaks because they are higher in mercury than canned light tuna. The FDA also recommends that pregnant women eat no more than 12 ounces a week of canned tuna.

I eat tuna all the time and so far I have had a good pregnancy, I am in my 9th month. I read in a magazine that tuna is fine its two certain types of fish that are not good for you but I dont remember which ones they were, but I know it wasnt Tuna. I honestly never heard about it until I seen the article so it scared me when I see the title "Fish is Dangous to while pregnant" but it did say its only certain kinds and tuna was not one of them. If you want to be sure I would ask my doctor but I dont think that it will effect anything

Well I eat tuna an I am pregnant an giving birth next month. My doctor hasn't said anything about not eating tuna but if you are still not sure then ask your doctor but if it's your doctor who says that you cant eat it then I don't know I guess every doctor is different. But tuna is also good for the milk in your breast if you are planning on breastfeeding.

Most Doctor's and Nutrition while Pregnant books strongly advise against eating tuna b/c of the Mercury. One 6 oz. can a week is what they suggest if you must have it, but why take they chance. There's a lot of food you shouldn't eat while pregnant, including soft cheeses, blue cheese, most shell fish, caffeine...

Sure you can eat tuna- But may I suggest that you don't buy canned tuna (they use very unethical methods of netting tuna) try buying it from the meat section of your grocer store or better yet try catching it your self-Most coastal city's have great charter boats.

Tinned tuna is not so bad, but you shouldn't eat too much. Fresh tuna, salmon, mahi mahi and marlin all contain mercury which can damage your baby. You are avised to steer clear of these fishes. Hope this helps.
