He's at 555. He'd probably be close to Bonds now.
My question is how many HR would Gehrig have if not for ALS?
And how many would Ted Williams have if not for two stints in the military?

I believe Junior would have become the all-time HR leader for sure. But it is very true that a player cannot go an entire career without getting a major injury any more....especially over the duration of 18 or 19 years, which is nearly how many full years he would have had to play to become the all time HR KING

"Mike" I was rather shocked when we both came up with the same # "105" ..555HR + 105 would put Griffey at 660, but as others have said, injuries and old age are part of the game..
As to someone's question on Ted Williams and the effect of missing 5 years while he served as a fighter pilot...Just those 5 years cost him 157HR...It's very difficult to calculate how much those 5 years affected the rest of his career...521HR + 157 puts Williams at 678 , it's possible he would have reached 700 but I doubt it...
If Lou Gehrig had remained healthy he quite possible could have played another 5 or 6 years and hit another 150HR or so, add that to his 493 for 643...I have no doubt that ALS was having its affect on Gehrig in 1938, he left the game for good after trying to play in 8 games the following year...Lou Gehrig turned 36 in 1939, he died 2 years later..
My best friend died 12 years ago from ALS, he was the same age as Gehrig when he died...I miss you every day buddy..

The list is 4 in a row executed by 3 communities, the sixty one Milwaukee Braves, the sixty 3 Cleveland Indians, and the sixty 4 Minnesota Twins. so some distance as human being gamers, the merely excellent guy to hit 4 consecutive homers became Mike Schmidt of the Phillies. Lou Gehrig also hit 4 consecutive homers in a sport to boot.

Probably 650-700, but that is moot. Most players don't make it their whole careers without being injured.
How many homers would Orlando Cepeda have hit with good knees? Mickey Mantle? What if Johnny Bench had played first base instead of catching?

I would estimate 105 more than he has. But like some of the other answers, who doesn't get injured or slow down? I remember when everyone and I mean EVERYONE said Vince Coleman would surpass Ricky Henderson as the all time stolen base leader.
Never happened
