Because the truth is in America it is not the Best candidate that wins anymore, it is the lesser of two evils. While Bush may have his faults, Kerry was jumping the fence. One moment he was for something the next against it. Sometimes people rather have the evil they know then the evil they don't. As for me I am just buying time till Hillary runs.

I would hardly consider this forum an accurate representation of the nation as a whole. There is definitely a demographic here (though true, comprised from many other demographics). That being said, here's what I think:

I think the nation in general is middle of the road with a conservative leaning. It doesn't always appear that way, since our national mouthpieces are all based in large cities, which are super-focused beacons of the left leaning.
The basic principles that Bush has espoused are more in line with more Americans than Kerry's were. That doesn't mean he hasn't pissed off everyone from the far left to the far right at least once, but for the most part, more people agree with his ideals on the whole than they did with anyone else.

Hardly perfect, and some would say that he was the lesser of two evils, but that's the way I read it.

The race was pretty close between Bush and Kerry. Honestly, I think the second term came from the idea that people had about Kerry.

Some people thought he was way, way, way to the left and would allow for things like gay marriage and other assorted things that close-minded people fear.

I've heard on more than one occasion, people felt Bush was the lesser of two evils. *rolls eyes* So, the people in the popular vote spoke, not really thinking that it could, and would, get worse. Bush ran an effective smear campaign against Kerry, and unfortunately for Kerry, he was involved in protesting our government back in the 60's for Vietnam. I honestly think that, combined with his open-minded ways, sealed his fate in a country with unthinking and blind patriot-zealots. With our wounded pride over 9-11, we seemed to think ourselves isolated in the world and took up with the man that looked like he would heal our wounds and lead us to victory. Hah.

As it is, Bush knows this is the last time he can run for president and he's really seeming to push to make his ideas law and even to the point he is trying to weave them into the very fabric of our nation. I don't believe anyone expected something so drastic from him.

Short answer: People simply didn't expect this man to go to the depths of where he has gone. They expected Kerry would be worse... how wrong they were.

[I voted Kerry!]

Because the left thinks that Bush stole an election in 2000 and then when they couldn't defeat him in 2004 they want to smear everything he does. Most of the Bush haters don't really know why they hate him....they can't give any factual data on anything, and try to spin lies to justify their hatred.

Actually the Dems in 2000 only wanted to count votes in the counties Gore led in....while Bush wanted to do a full recount in the state.

Did you see the other guy ?
Were those two really the best the USA could do ? Or were there shennanigens behind the scenes ?
I would say that it wasn't the American people who voted Bush in (even without the vote rigging), but his presidency was largely arranged by vested interests .The populace in general were merely accomplices due to their gullibility.

He got reelected because my country is very divided right now. You probably have seen the red and blue states map. And once the war was already started the country hoped that since he was the one who started it that he had a plan to end it. Also, his brother runs Florida and they can't seem to get their voting system corrected so it's easy to give those electoral votes to who they want to be in charge.

I love my country but don't like the doofus who is at the top. His policies and lack of action are sending me to the poor house.

Because most of the people who answer Yahoo!Questions are liberals, the majority of American Conservatives don't bother living on-line. Many of the people who answer Yahoo!Questions are illegal aliens too and foreigners here on shady visas. Real Americans mostly support President Bush and love America.

you have an excellent question that cannot be answered . maybe it is because people just love to complain . The truth is he is doing a great job in representing America and they know that . He was voted in twice and would probably do it again if possible . People who truly love America would never talk down about their leader , sure they would criticize but still have respect for him

During the second election, the Bush administration appealed to their base, the conservative and religious right, on moral issues. The scare tactics of gay marriage and supposed "loss of family values" were strong selling points to get their vote.
