My pug, Vinny, has throat cancer. The vet says he has four months to live.

(He's just winking in the picture, he's not blind or anything. I love him so much.)

I mean like, four months before he'll be in a lot of pain. He's not in pain right now, because he just treated. In fact, the vet says he doesn't even know he's sick. If he was suffering, of course we'd put him down.

AWW : ( i am sooo sorry..this makes me so sad so i can only imagine how you feel.
first of all just try to enjoy the time you have left with him and take LOTS of pictures!!he's so cute. maybe make a website about him and write down all the funny/cute stuff he does so youll always remember.
also maybe join some sites like forums or chatrooms w/ people who are going through the same thing, that will help a lot
Oh yeah and there are pet loss counselors at some vets.

i know you must be really upset but try not to let it get you down because dogs can sense when youre sad, just try to make the best of his last months. and remember that miracles do happen! I am not a religious person whatsoever but i would suggest praying for him, if anything it'll make you feel better.

Enjoy every second with him....take him everywhere. You can buy him one of those Therapy Dog Vests...they sell them on line and with that you can pretty much take your dog everywhere!...restaurants, movies...etc. I just got it for my dog. NOw I even take her to work!. Anyway. Besides spending every minute with your doggie, make him feel extra special. At least you have some notice instead of loosing him without notice becuase some idiot run over him with his car. Also, know that there will be no more pain and suffering after death. Death doesn't really hurt. It is just one step that takes us to the other side. What hurts is the fact of knowing that we won't have his company anymore. It hurts to miss him. In that case it is just a sellfish feeling because we are just thinking of how much pain WE have for not having him with US anymore....instead of thinking, I am glad my doggie is is Doggie Heaven and that he is happy now. Know that he will always be alive in your heart.

dont take this the wrong way but i worked at a vet for a while and i
seen a lot of animals die & a lot of people cry, it sux i have 2 bull mastiffs i dont leave to work till i see them i wrestle with them when i get home & i check them before i go to bed but the day that they get old & i see them in pain I will put them down, & it will hurt i call them my kids, sometimes people from my observations @ the vet cant handle losing their pet & refuse to put them down till the last second & i think thats horrible to make the animal suffer like that, its like that girl chivo(mispelled?) i'd have them pull the plug real quick on me, but whatever you choose try to make them as comfortable as possible and dont obsess over his death just think of the happier times with said dog it wont be easy no matter what we do but thats the choice we make when we ask "how much is that doggie in the window" more than you know

u deal with it. My last dog just got sick one night, I was going to take her to the vet in the morning, i slept with her all night on the floor, come morning she was so bad she couldnt walk i had to carry her to the car, by the time we got her into the ver her heart was beating 15 time a minute, the vet was going to put her down, but, by the time he got the needle ready she died. That was 7 years ago. My eyes get watery, and my chest tightens telling you this. Enjoy him while you can. Take him on a vacation, lavish him. because you will miss him when he is gone. and you dont want to have any regrets.

Sorry to hear of your very sad situation.

Death and grief are always tough on the emotions. The best advice I can offer is allow yourself to feel what you are feeling at any given time.

Give Vinny all the hugs you want to give him and talk to him about how you are feeling.

You cry, you give him all the love you can now and then you remember all the great things about him and hope that we're reunited with our pets in Heaven. It also helps to avoid the pet food aisle for awhile after he's gone or you might make a fool of yourself in the grocery store. I know. I'm sappy.
