Boycotts rarely if ever work. You'd be better off joining an anti-whaling group, or something of that nature.

Why boycott Japan when they have repeatedly violated the international ban on whaling? Haven't the Japanese given the world reason enough to impose economic sanctions against them? I'm sure U.S. auto makers would love to dominate the market again and with Japan out of the way, U.S. domination is a reality if not a certainty. Bill Ford could keep his car company alive if he just went green.

It is hard to get momentum going with a boycott. Try to see if greenpeace or peta or the sierra club have ongoing boycotts.
On some level, you personally (alone) get the satisfaction of not supporting someone or some country, but that's about it. You don't really damage the intended victim as much as you think you might!
I tried to get people on Yahoo Movies to boycott Tom Cruise's films but it did not catch on!

It wouldn't make Japan stop whale hunting, that's for sure. It would be more likely to encourage it, since the incentive to cooperate would be gone.

Yes, because trade isn't conducted at the personal level.
