Isaac Newton liked to stare into the Sun. He was curious about how the image of the Sun could still be seen long after looking away. He once stared at the Sun for three straight hours and was virtually blind for a couple of days.

Scarier still, he noticed if he inserted a letter opener between his eyeball and the socket and jiggled the letter opener, he could artificially recreate the same type image as when he stared at the Sun.

Fortunately, he also performed a few experiments on optics that were more productive (like experiments with prisms, for example).

You must be an excellent typist!

I don't particularly like to stare directly into the sun because you can go blind, and I hope that didn't happen to you. I hope your vision returns soon without any lasting or permanent damage!

I live in southern california...a couple of years ago, we had some really bad wild fires and the smoke covered the entire sky. But, you could still see the sun, in fact, you could look right at it without any problems because of the haze. It was awesome, because you could very clearly see sun spots, dark parts of the sun, with your naked eye. It was amazing!
