I lived in Tucson Az. and was walking home one day when I saw a homeless man with a sign that said "will work for food" so I asked him if he would mind if I got him a burger at the Mickey D's because I was barely not homeless myself and didnt have much money, but I know what it is like to be hungry.
3 weeks later I heard that a homeless person had won the Arizona state lottery and thought that was a wonderful thing.
2 weeks later I came home to find my door off of the hinges and a note from the police telling me that I should call them, which I did without going into the house (wasnt sure what I would find).
The cops showed up with a man who asked if I remembered buying a homeless man a burger over a month previous? I said that I did and he told me he was so glad to hear it because all he had was my description to try to find me with.
The homeless man I had bought the burger for was the one that had won the lotto.
When I went into the house I found so much food in my kitchen that I had to give some of it away so it wouldnt go bad. He had put vases of flowers on every flat surface, including the floor, my shower was full of flowers and he had put $20 bills under every knick-knack and along the edge of my mattress (it totaled about $4,000)
He told me that no one else would try to help him and that burger was the first thing he had had to eat in a couple of days and he wanted to pay me back for what he called "my kindness".
When I asked how, if he couldnt buy food, did he manage to get the lottery ticket, he told me someone gave it to him instead of cash.

June 22, 1981. Veteran stadium in l. a., Mayor Tom Bradley (*) in attendance. Swore my Oath od Allegiance to the Flag of the united states and grew to grow to be a Citizen. How thrilling!. It became actually the desire of a life-time. i became 37 on the time. (*) What became a city mayor doing at a Federal ceremony except mooching for votes. How pathetic. fortuitously i became and am, a resident of Orange County. Enuff reported.

My education. People take free education for granted. Take it while you can...not everyone is given the chance to further their intelligence the way people in America are!
