The traditional american values are:
Genocide
Aggression
Conformity
Emotional repression
Hypocrisy
The worship of comfort and consumer goods
Thats why I oppose traditional values, and embrace newer ones like equality, respect for the environment, animal rights, and freedom from religion.

These responses crack me up. "Traditional values" depends on what tradition you are following of course. In a sense, many of the Islamic fascists we (and Israel) are facing believe in "traditional values." In the West, however, the tradition would be the European and Anglo-Saxon values that were much the thrust of the Renaissance. We can even trace much of what we call "values" to the ancient Greeks. These values, in the West, are freedom, the unwavering acknowledgment of right and wrong, education, family and community, happiness, pride and stability (connected with nobility), and to a degree, work and self-sufficiency. This is not to say a tension does not exist within these principles. Implicit in this is the idea that unmitigated change is bad, imprudent, foolish, and ephemeral. Tradition means that generations of men - past, present, and future - have lay claim to certain ideas, ideas we live for, ideas worth dieing for. It is not about some fashionable want or fool-hearty demand, such as the "right to gay marriage." There are reasons beyond explanation as to why homosexual marriage, for instance, has never been sanctioned by any society. Not to mention it would be self-defeating and irrational. So, "traditional values" is not a meaningless term, it has also become such in the west where so many have lost faith in themselves and their cause, their history, in the foundation of everything that we live for. Hope this helps.
