It's not legal in the U.S. except in Oregon, where it must be assisted by a physician; and the person must be ill, not just wanting to end their life.

There is a thing such as assisted suicide. I wrote a paper on how it should be legal for sociology class.
Assisted suicide laws around the world are clear in some nations but unclear – if they exist at all – in others. Just because a country has not defined its criminal code on this specific action does not mean all assisters will go free. It is a complicated state of affairs. A great many people instinctively feel that suicide and assisted suicide are such individual acts of freedom and free will that they assume there are no legal prohibitions. This fallacy has brought many people into trouble with the law. Read more ...

No, it is not legal as many here have said. My sister was terminally ill with cancer. No hope of survival, just severe, excruciating pain. She followed Dr Kevorkian's escapades of assisting terminally ill persons in self-assisted suicides. He crossed the line when he injected the person himself and was indicted (and charged), with murder. He remains in jail.
I'm an RN and we spent a great deal of time on ethics in training. Such as "what would you do, in a hospital situation, if someone begged you to pull the plug or inject them with a drug that would help them pass on?" Mercy killings do happen. My personal opinion of Dr Kevorkian is that he was providing a service to others who wanted to die with dignity. If you ever had to watch a loved one die gasping for every breath over a long period of time, you might have a very different view of what he was doing for others. As far as assisting someone in suicide when they could commit suicide themselves, is just plain stupid and will cause a murder rap, guaranteed. Why do you ask?

It is legal only in Oregon. In Oregon, doctors are allowed to prescribe lethal amounts of whatever drug to help you die.
Personally, I think it should be legal everywhere. If we can make the choice to kill our dogs when they get too sick or old and are "suffering", why can't we make the choice for ourselves when we are suffering?
People with mental disorders should only be allowed to choose when they reach a certain age (say 70 -75), but for anyone else... if you are terminally ill, paralyzed, even having to take 25 pills a day just to stay alive... you should have the choice. Period.

There became once by technique of a guy named Jack Kavorkian, yet they despatched him to detention center...in case you pick to donate your organs purely make positive you're an organ donor...and also you should always go away a be conscious, yet in case you shoot your self they could likely no longer donate your organs because the lead from the bullet and gun may contaminate your blood, and the blood may likely all leak out besides...you may be better off doing a drowning or per chance purely starting to be a member of the defense force and going distant places, in case you pick to die, a minimum of do some thing properly worth demise for...

Yes and it is clearly not legal. If you want to assist someone who is terminally ill then you had better ask someone else. If you did not know... everything you say and do is held against you.

Probably so...but what a dreadful thought.
First off, I can't imagine why someone who is healthy (physically, mentally, emotionally, et cet...) would want to kill themselves.
And for that same person to want assistance, I have to wonder if maybe they really are mentally ill and need professional help.
