Well about the only difference I've noticed is they are usually smarter about what takes out certain stains. But I have a Kirby and my shampooer on that cleans better than anything I've ever seen...[my girlfriends and I have actually pitted all of our cleaners against each others and the Kirby won by a landslide] I have a few ideas on it...it is either the gigantic sucking power the Kirby has, or its the awesome cleaners developed for them. The best one is called *Dilute*..it originally started as an upholstery cleaner, and since I bought my first bottle I've been hooked. I've used it in my small spot cleaner too and it works like a miracle in that thing too. Also, I make up a very diluted version as an all purpose spray and it cleans better and faster than any other all purpose out there. Put it this way.....It cleaned the grease off the garage floor to make it look new again.

So if you want to save yourself some dough, find some Dilute and give it a try on your own.... IMO, a carpet cleaning service is just that..a service. Like getting your car washed. Yea, you could do it yourself...but why when you can pay someone else to do it? LOL

Not at all. It's all in the choice of chemicals you get. Acid to neutralize stains that are base and Base to neutralze stains that are acidic. Read the directions on the bottle and don't over/under mix. Last point, just saturate enough to left dirt up not soaking wet as the carpet will buckle.

Yes usually. The machine they use is usually attached to a moving van with stronger suction, and a better beater bar or powerhead. The dirty water is suctioned into the van and then disposed of. If you don't scotch guard after steam cleaning your carpet will get twice as dirty twice as fast also.

They use the same equipment, but they know how to use it. As well as cleaning spots on different fabric & carpet.
