Because anime deals with real stuff and real issues that English cartoons and comics try to avoid. I'm an anime fan myself and anime brings to the light what other stuff shuts out. No they're not trying to promote the stuff such as gay and lesbian couples, but just saying that it's there. And alot of the stuff you see is purely fan-based. Personally, I'm okay with gay/lesbian relationships, but alot of the couples (particularly in anime fanfictions) are fan-made (example: HieixKurama in Yu Yu Hakusho this one i do not support as it is stated in the anime that they are straight)

Are you watching anime that maybe specifically going for an audience that is homosexual like "Gravitation" for an example. I think it is because a lot of girls appear to look like guys and the guys have many female qualities, this is to make it funny or to reflect what it is like in the real world.

most true animes look regular, without having same sex couples
but in a way you are correct, as "it is unusual"(in most people's minds)
one tends to notice more the few cases
one case was of all animes, in sailor moon(at least in japanes versions, in american versions there were only very slight hints) where neptune and uranus were a couple, and sailor saturn was their adopted daughter

Because animes are the equivalent of R-rated cartoons. They get away with a lot in animes as far as nudity that you would never see animated here in the US. They push the envelope more as far as what they can draw there.

I hadn't noticed that, but I guess it is because they are trying to get a certain audience to look at animes. If you don't like that type, try different types until you find what you like.

i dont know..i never watch it before..
Not all animes are yaoi or yuri,there are only few of them....
sometimes anime fans make out a yaoi or yuri couples,that make us feel like this is true..but no!!
sasuke cannot be with naruto!!

it's because Japan doesn't look down on homos like other countries. i don't really like it but i don't mind.
