If this was your father, if you were a child at the time you may be able to get access to your Social Services records if you have any.
You need to find out the address of the office in the area that dealt with your case and write to them. If you contact the office nearest you, they'll be able to advise.
As for criminal records, as far as I know the only way to get info is to look for the record of the trial. These are published for the benefit of solicitors, so you need to find out how to get hold of a copy.

The court documents are a matter of public record. Contact the county if he was prosecuted and they can provide the documents. You can also go the library and search through newspaper files for information.

Go to Courthouse where he was convicted. Ask in the Clerk's office where to find them. Also, go to local newspaper office. They will have a whole log of stories on the incident in their archives.
