Unfortunately, the crack will continue to spread as the weather and climate changes. Eventually, it will make a crack across the entire windshield. Further, you will not be able to pass inspection in your state with a cracked windshield. It will have to be replaced first. Often a broken windshield is covered by your insurance. Sometimes there may be a deductible, but the insurance ought to kick in at least after $100. Check it out. Your insurance just may cover the total cost.

Good luck!!

The CORRECT answer is...unfortunately, you can't. It will continue to spider out. The fix? Either replace it with a new windshield or go to a salvage yard and get a used one...I don't recommend the used route though, unless you know someone who's really good at installing auto glass...otherwise they could damage your trim, etc. getting it in and out, and it will probably leak.
The "comprehensive" part of your auto insurance will pay for replacement of the windshield; you will only have to pay your deductible amount and they will pay the rest. Comprehensive covers things like this where a rock, etc. damages the car.

Hope this helped a little.

there is a company called crack magic here in Denver, CO. that fixes our windshields all the time for the same problem. You may see if the are also in business where you are located. They stopped 4 cracks in 2 of my cars over the years.

12 inches long? your fuc*ked. were it smaller than it would be easier to fix. you can still try and save face with it by going to a home depot or auto parts store and getting a window crack repair kit. it'll fill in the majority of the crack with glue to prevent it from spreading further but seeing it's a big one now might be a long shot in saving it. but worth a try. either that or buy a new windshield.

You need a new windshield. Plus, it's illegal to drive with a crack in the windshield. Get it fixed.

You can't. You will have to replace the glass. Make sure whoever puts it in uses PPG glass and the factory molding. Otherwise the windshield will not fit properly & most likely leak air or water.

The worst thing to do is let Safelite install it.

Good luck

i have heard of two procedures of preventing the crack from spreading. One is to drill a very small hollow at each end of the crack. this theory comes from the days earlier toughened and laminated glass, so that you could opt to apply a diamond-tip drill to do this. the second one one i have heard is to apply large glue. i have no theory no matter if both of those artwork and, in the united kingdom a minimum of, it really is unlawful to stress with a cracked windscreen besides. relying on what form and length, a windshield can value from £one hundred to £three hundred to furnish and fit.
