I'm pretty sure that that's normal for hermit crabs. I used to want some really bad and so I looked up loads of info on them. No need to worry. I'm pretty sure he's just sleeping or something like that...

It’s an escape attempt. Sound the alarms! No, really there could be an earthquake about to happen. Grab your crab and get out of the house! No no, only fool’n he’s just shy and getting used to his new home. If he’s still alive after a couple of days he’ll come out and pinch the daylights out’a somebody.
I love hermit crabs! If you have an assortment of larger shells around the cage, sometimes they’ll try on a new one when they get too big for the shell they came with. My brother had one that lived in a small olive bottle. His name was Egbert. (The crab that is) Good luck!

This is completly normal behavior. In the wild Hermit Crabs dig and burry and tunnel. Do not attempt to dig him up that will stress him out and could cause dropped limbs or worse.

It is not always a sign of molting but it can be.. it can also be a sign of stress and the attempt to de-stress, that is why you should leave him alone.

Also sometimes they just dig and tunnel and burry just because it is their nature.

I know it can be frustrating to have a pet that stays burried but they are not a normal pet and one must take them for what they are. An exotic type of crustacean, that untill it is perfectly comfortable and happy will be inactive and stay burried.

Keep the food fresh and the waters too and he will come out when HE is ready... just please do not make that decision for him.

THey are not pet/pets.. they are not exciting, nor do they like to be played with or taken out of their tank homes.. they do best with a hands off approach.

It's normal. My daughter has one and he hides all the time. That's why they're called hermit crabs.

Don't fret...he is literally making himself at home. They do that....and other "strange" things. You should check out this site and read more on them. They are pretty interesting and my daughter has 2 of them too.
