i was told that it is very near the Pasig River, and approxamatly 5 miles from the main airport in that area

The "Lonely Planet" books are the best. Get them in any large bookstore. You could just check that page of buy the entire book. The have maps, hotel listing, hotel phone numbers, tourist attractions. They have a web site. You could buy the book there. They do not have detailed free information.
Last time I checked Mapquest did not have maps on the smaller cities.
