Last night I watched the Gus Van Sant movie "Elephant" which potrayed a Columbine-like high school massacre. I had started a research project years ago about how kids are bullied and abused during their school years. Watching the film last night renewed my interest in the subject. I was a kid who was mercilessly picked on during my school years, and I am interested in hearing and documenting stories of how others have endured the same sort of abuse. If you have experienced any sort of bullying, abuse, torture, or other maltreatment at the hands of your peers I would like to hear your story. I will choose the best example of bullying as best answer.

I am very happy for those of you who have overcome your particular situations, but this is research, I am looking for stories of people's experiences, not advice. If you do not have a story to offer, please do not reply, though I understand you are well intentioned.

yes. i have been picked on in school. most of it happened in middle school. because i came from a less then rich family, i didnt wear cool clothes. i also had my fair share of zits, i couldnt kick a ball, and my boobs werent big enough. the people who were nice to everybody were mean to me. i had no friends after a rumor spread that i had lied. i got a reputation as a sl*t, lier, and poor little bit*h. i was looked down upon for stuff that was out of my control. its not my fault that my mom didnt earn enough money to send me and my 4 bros and 3 sisters to the mall whenever we wanted something we would only wear for a week. but now that im starting college in the fall, im a little more confident because now i know that the kids i went to school with, there parents money wont last forever. good luck with your research and remember: never look down on someone unless you are helping them up.

no... but i have seen others being bullied....

the most extreme case i remember was this teacher and these couple of guys in my history class in junior high school....the guys are really rebellious and obnoxious kids to be around... my teacher O'Brien was never in control... they guys would always scream and yell at her, make fun of what she would try to teach, or make fun of her clothes, or not listen at all... to get their attention she would yell back... but it never works because these guys never listened...it became so bad that she threw a stapler onto the floor once because she couldn't take it anymore.... even when she ask other teachers for help the guys don't seem to calm down... the guys was sent to the dean's but when they returned they were always worse than before... we hardly have any lessons that whole year....it was constant fighting between the guys and the ms. O'Brien... there are also times when she tries to teach and keep order by looking at us and writing on the board with one hand at the same time... the writing would be messy .. which just gives those guys another chance to make fun of her...we felt bad but there was nothing we could do... those guys were out of control and she didn't have any control...the next year we learned that this teacher resigned from teaching...

Well, I don't know if this is the best example, but when i was young my mother kept my hair really long and wouldn't let me wash it often. I had bad dandruff, and these kids that didn't like me got the cafeteria to chant "dandruff" at me as I passed during lunch. It was really awful. These same kids called me the "light-skinned Ethiopian" because I am part black, and was the only mixed kid at my 99% white school. My sister was the other kid! These experiences scarred me for awhile, but I never thought about shooting the place up.

I had braces, a headgear, skinny, and had back brace. Yeah I was bullied! I got called brace face, stick, and elephant man (I had scoliosis). I had the same bully for 4 years. I was shy and quiet so I never said anything. One time I was taking the bus home from the mall. I bought the record (I'm old) Flashdance (and a dork). The bus made stop and she came on with a group of friends. She sat right across from me and started ripping on me. She kicked the record out of my hands and it went flying across the bus. She saw what it was and just started hounding me. That was when I had enough. I exploded! I jumped at her, started pulling hair and punching, then threw her off the bus and out the door (it was stopped). I sat back down and she came back in with a spiked bracelet around her fist and a knife. She held the knife up and said "Sit down doggy" then punched me in the eye with the spiked bracelet. My eye swelled up and turned black. When my brother found out he told me "The next time you see her go up and hurt her." I was walking down the halls in school a few days later and she was walking toward me. I slammed her against the wall and kept going. The next day she approached me and apologized. I was shocked! She never bullied me again!

My middle school was featured in our capital city's newspaper as a "breeding ground for bullying". It was SICK. I had to develop such a tough skin while I was there for 3 years. Bullying is a huge problem, and kids these days are forced to either get tough, or get out.

Yes, I have. I am not in the "in" crowd. I am not skinny, so all of my life at school, I have been called degrading names and ppl have written bad stuff on my locker in permanent marker... I decided last year that I didn't care what other ppl think of me because they aren't worth the time.

well yes...last year in 8th grade 3 bigger boys kept on throwing paper balls at me and several other things. On graduation day i finnaly snapped and that night at prom i finally got my payback i had a bat in my khakis (i was in a bad school with metal detectors which i forgot to mention) and i beat them down in the middle of the dance floor with 6 other of my friends. The DJ was stupid he kept on saying "yea yea stomp them feet boys and girls!" which we did when the floor cleared up they were on the floor injured and scratched up and nobody knew who did it. now im in my freshman year and nobody is going to bully me because i know almost everyone in my school now.
