Probably she should wait until she returns back to the doctor for a follow-up and find out how she is doing and then make a plan for exercising.

Five weeks? Nothing! and don't let her, I had this surgery a year ago, and at 6-7 weeks she'll be doing really great, but at five it's still all a nono. She can travel and stuff, but she should even regulate how long she is on her feet, and she still needs a nap every day. Take care of her! I pulled stitches :(

She's had major surgery and shouldn't be doing any exercises! Light walking at max! If she pushes too much she's risking complications including scar tissue (which is painful).
This website has a lot of good information and provides additional guidance with regard to dos and don'ts after surger. http://www.hystersisters.com/
I know it's difficult, you get really stir crazy after sugery. I had mine done last year (was 37) and out of work for 6 weeks...almost 7. But she has to take it easy.

Most women do fine 6 - 8 weeks past surgery. Back to normal except for tiredness due to anesthesia. That can last a year.

She should have been walking at the very least all along. Did she have a vaginal hysterectomy of an open one?
