About Iraq: It is a country in the middle East bordered by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Jordan and Kuwait. It is the home of civilization, the birthplace of writing, the home of the first great cities. These all sprouted in Mesopotamia (which means "between the rivers"), an area of fertile land between the great Euphrates and Tigris rivers. It was recently involved in a long war with Iran, a short one with Britain, USA, France, Spain and various other countries after a U.N. resolution prompted by the invasion of Kuwait. It was invaded contrary to the resolutions of the U.N. more recently by USA, Britain and Spain to global opposition, most vociferously from France and Russia. The country is currently in a state of turmoil which may erupt into civil war at any second.

About Iraqis: The Iraqis are predominantly Arab, with a Kurdish minority mostly living in the north west of the country in an area called Kurdistan, which also runs into Turkey. They are almost all Muslims, although there is a small Nestorian Christian minority. Before the birth of Islam, there was a larger Christian community,a nd also a Jewish population. Tariq Aziz, Saddam Husseins foreign minister, was part of this Christian minority. The muslim population is made up of Shi'ites, Sunnis and Kurds. The Kurds have been marginalised for many years, and although the Shi'ites are the largest group, they were oppressed under Baathist regime who's leader, Saddam Hussein, was a Sunni. There are various tribal groups and aliegences throughout the country.
The inhabitants of what is now Iraq have for many years created beautiful art, revolutionary science and great empires. Bagdad was for many centuries one of the greatest cities in the world.
The people of Iraq, for the most part (like everyone else in the wrold) want peace and happiness.

There. That is what I think about Iraq. Ok, that's what I know about Iraq, but seeing as I've never been there I can't really pass judgement. Also, I don't really like passing judgement over nations, because nations are just a collection of individuals and individuals are variable and, as implied in the name, individual.

I feel so, so, so bad for the constant state of chaos that has been creating in Iraq, the millions of innocent people that have been killed through the 2 U.S. wars and the U.S./UN sanctions and hope that Iraq is not headed towards civil war.
