that all depends on where you are located. If you are in a country where they are speaking arabic they would probably not consider themselves western. If you were somewhere where they speak english it may be different. I would assume that the rest would be somewhere inbetween or be different altogether. There is no dening that there is both western and eastern influence depending where you are.

I'd consider Africa outside both of these categories and say it's South. Culturally speaking again it has it's own culture that's both distinct from Europe and Asia. Saying this though you could end up in a city like Jo'burg which has many western traits or Cairo which is definately a middle eastern capital. Hope it answers the Q

From where?
From Brazil it's east.
From Madagascar it's west.
The term Western world or "the West" can have multiple meanings depending on its context. Originally defined as Western Europe, most modern uses of the term refer to the societies of Europe and their close genealogical, linguistic, and philosophical colonial descendants, typically included are those countries whose dominant culture is derived from European culture, such as North and South America, Australia and New Zealand.

The term Eastern world refers very broadly to the various cultures, social structures and philosophical systems of "the East", namely Asia (including China, India, Japan, and surrounding regions).

In cultural terms Africa is neither western nor eastern .

From the east coast of the USA, Africa lies East and shares the Atlantic ocean..Fly there and carry a compass, you will be going East from America. It is a combination continent east and west, but considered western.

I'd say that the nation of South Africa is "west" because it is somewhat better developed and because of its European influence. Morocco, Algeria and Lybia are Arab countries, so I'd say those belong to the Middle East. However, the rest of the continent is so underdeveloped, that it doesn't fit either category. It's like Haiti which is so chronically poor that just because it's in the western hemisphere, it just doesn't quite fit in the "west" categorization.

Africa is in all quadrants:Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern Hemispheres, so technically, Africa is somewhat at the center.

in cultural terms, i would consider it more eastern. I mean most of the continent isn't exactly a democracy, but rather a dictatorship's paradise

Neither, although its European influences would make them more western than eastern (Asian).
