Definitely follow their guidelines (they usually tell you) but I'd keep it to just a couple of pages.

It depends on what the essay is about however in any case; at the most 2 pages. No more than that. Get to the point of your essay highlight the things that are most important. It's never good to ramble on and on in college essays. It doesn't guarantee that you'll be put at the top of the list.

It is very important for you to read the guidelines provided by each college. Usually, the longer essays are about 500 words and the shorter essays are about 250. The more well known colleges give out three essays. Make sure your essays are well-written and to the point. Don't try to sound long-winded by adding all sorts of fancy words, admission officers look for people who are true to themselves.

search amazon.com for a book on college essays. They have one The Hundred Best Essays. Your essay doesn't mean as much as your high school grades which is by far the most important factor and your SAT's the second most important factor. Why are you worrying at all? You only need to worry if you are applying to a selective school like Harvard and if you have high grades and decent SAT's if you don't get into Harvard, you'll get into a school just as good. Your essay doesn't matter much unless you screw it up horribly.

Follow the guidelines they give you. Considering that they probably read tons of essays, I would say 1 - 1 1/2 pages. Make it concise and straight to the point.

Be Different ! Bring in a model of whatever issue your pursuing...along with your essay...regardless if it against rules...set anew trend...show them that you have a mind of your own !!!!!!!!!!
