Yes, I totally agree. Did you know that Dove commercial with the plus-sized women got banned b/c critics didn't want people to see "fat" is beauty? We are so worried about the US being obese, that they are even weighing our kids. Pretty soon, people are going to get lipo and we will all be the same. Yes I am plus-sized, and it makes me mad when i can't shop in american eagle and the gap. I feel the same, and im sure all these teenagers(and some adults, too) have/will develop eating disorders because they want to fit in.

I'm no fan of the fashion magazines either but anorexia and bulima are not direct results of the skinny models. It's a form of control in an out of control life or at least a perceived out of control life.
It's a way for kids and adults who don't feel like they have any control over work, school, their home lives, whatever the issue to at the very least be able to control what they do and don't put in their bodies.
What they really need is to find a better self image and self worthby either counseling or by positive actions. You can't blame the fasion magazines or the people who run them for that.

Or they could show the clothes on regular people, since the idea is to suggest fashion styles to their readership. If I see an outfit on one of those lollipops they call models, it tells me nothing about whether it will look right on me with boobs, hips and no six-pack. (Incidentally, I am not fat. I am a size eight.) You are absolutely right that little kids (and full-grown women) are anorexic and bulimic because these magazines tell them that the only way to be attractive is to be so skinny that you can count your ribs.

I agree. These magazines don't do anything to help young children and young teens with their self image. Always seeing Paris Hilton and other (in)famous celebs that way seems like us "regular" people need to lose weight and be skinny like them in order to get a good looking partner. Goes to show pretty people make it in the business, and that those that are average or overweight are below standards. It's really sad though. And the media and tabliods and these magazines aren't helping.

I agree that the fashion and celebrity magazines are ruining our women. I have met many women that have had troubles with weight and some are now watched by their loved ones to make sure that they never go back to a destructive lifestyle. I went to school with a model who would drop weight for a photo shoot and than get sicker than a dog because her body fat was way to low.

No. Fashion is art and a way of life. It's showing your expressions. Fashion Magazines just so you what's out there and that time.

i dont think they are intentionally out to ruin lives.. but they are promoting something that isn't natural & healthy and surely contributing to ruining some people's lives.. is that their fault? to a degree they have a respnonsibility to show varying shapes and sizes that represent healthy people not only stick figure women who in many cases aren't being healthy..
hopefully the skin & bone fad will pass and the "healthy and fit" phase will become the norm when humans cut down further on ridiculous & idiotic fashion movements that have plagued our societies from centuries

Don't blame the mags...blame blame yourself if you buy into it. I'm not saying you personally do....people should just ignore the trends if they are not happy with them. As long as you know what constitues for a good body image it should not matter who is in a magazine. Don't let societies vision of beauty cloud your judgement. I think it is harsh to accuse a mag of ruining someone's life b/c one's life is their own. You get what you make of it.
