Cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp with cocktail sauce goes well with the wine and cheese. Salami or other deli meats and cheese. Gourmet bagged snacks like Gardettos. Grapes, strawberries, melons, carrots, broccoli, celery with dips are good. After all this you should be full - especially after the wine!

artichokes, a veggie frittata, olives, a good baguette, sliced tomato and chianti for an italian theme.
fresh figs, grapes, feta, hummus, pita bread, cherry tomatoes and falafel for a greek/middle east theme.
fried chicken, corn, brownies, and cut veggies with ranch dressing for an all-american picnic.
simple sandwiches (with few fillings), strawberries, a couple good dark chocolate bars and sparkling wine (a cava or even champagne) for a romantic one.
