Our minds are limited by our own gifted imaginations. If the sky is the limit then we are forever earthbound. We want to know answers because we have questions. Why we want to know is a point that philosophy fails to completely answer.

Because there are plenty things to learn about our world, in which we are living. Knowledge make human beings become better. Knowledge can't be harmful, anyway, it is a tool that we use to live in a better way. For example, if we understand our environment, we'll improve our way of living.
